Welcome to SCAN

Schistosomiasis is estimated to affect around 200 million people in over 70 countries of the developing world. The disease landscape is in a constant state of flux due to effective but often sporadic control programmes, and changing environmental pressures, both human and climate induced.

SCAN, the Schistosomiasis Collection at the Natural History Museum, is recording this developing picture by maintaining a genetic/genomic archive of schistosome and snail samples with contextual data.

By providing an essential resource for schistosomiasis related studies, we aim to facilitate research into this important neglected tropical disease.
