About SCAN

The schistosomiasis collection at NHM – SCAN is a global repository of schistosomiasis-related samples and contextual data. SCAN is based at the Natural History Museum (NHM), and is a WHO Collaborating Centre for the identification and characterisation of schistosomes and their intermediate snail hosts.

SCAN:

Consolidates recent and legacy collections of schistosomes and their intermediate snail hosts
Provides field and laboratory-based research support
Stores samples using methods compatible with a range of molecular techniques
Maximises data associated with each sample
Undertakes sample processing by appropriate molecular methods
Facilitates research by providing access to the collections and data.
